Great Yorkshire Show 2023

Glorious sunshine welcomed visitors to this year’s opening day of the show, and a huge audience watched Judge Alastair Fitzsimon tap out his champion, Kathleen 14th of Earn.

Overall and female champion, Kathleen 14th of Earn

Owned and bred by Heather Corrigal and brought out by Graeme and Rebecca Easton of Ranch fold and shown by Graeme Easton. Kathleen is by Magnus of Earn out of Kathleen 12th of Earn.

Standing in reserve was Callum Dubh of Cailaich, this 16-month-old is owned and bred by R and S Strachan. Callum’s sire is Callum Dubh of Thaggnam and his dam is Lady Robine of Cailaich. Callum was brought out by Steven and Rosemary Hunter of Hunters fold and shown by Steven Hunter.

Reserve female champion was the 3-year-old Seonasag of Ubhaidh, bred by Roy Tylden-Wright Abel and is owed by Robert and Diane Bradley of Moorside fold. She is by Douglas of Ubhaidh and out of Capleadh 14th of Craigowmill.

Standing in reserve to the male champion was Eoin Mhor 31st of Mottistone, bred by Michael Poland and owned by Balrownie Farms and shown by Ryan Carnegie.

It was a fabulous day for the Strachan and Hunter families as Callum Dubh of Cailiach was also junior champion and Alice 2nd of Hunters, bred and owned by Stephen and Rosemary Hunter was reserve junior champion.

Again, Highland Cattle proved a force to be reckoned with in the Interbreed Competition when our Senior Team of Four were placed 6th in a very strong class.

The team were: Bealach of Benmore from Sam Hunter, Dossan Ruadh 7th of Glengoyne owned by Star Lake Cattle Company brought out by D & C Logan and shown by Dexter Logan, Seonasag of Ubhaidh from Robert and Diane Bradley, and Boideach 2nd of Hunters, owned by R and E Davies.
