Archie commented: ‘The Highland classes were very well supported and would have been one of the most numerous sections at the Royal Welsh Show. The cattle were shown in good bloom and nicely presented by those involved. Males were low in numbers but there were some useful stock on show. All the female classes contained some animals of merit and deserved the awards given out.

At the end of the day, I chose Sineag Dubh of Seam as my champion. From the strongest class, she is a young cow making a good job rearing a well-bred calf. A good walker, she was not only structurally correct but had that that bit of elegance we look for in the breed.’

The cattle were very good, the stewards were excellent and the exhibitors were great to be involved with and a credit to themselves and the breed.

The Welsh Highland Cattle Club held a dinner and trophy presentation on the Monday evening after showing. During the presentation, Simon Haley was presented with the Carney Challenge Cup for the Overall Champion. He then announced that he and Emma were gifting Sineag Dubh of Seam and Milis 3rd of Seam to Chloe Robert and Matthew Iceton. Chloe and Matthew have worked with Simon and Emma for many years and had expertly shown both animals on the day and many times in the past. This was a complete surprise to them both and there were a few tears of joy after the announcement.
