Royal Highland Show 2023

Glorious weather greeted visitors to this year’s Royal Highland Show, held Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 June, and the Highland Cattle were a real spectacle for those who came to view the day’s proceedings. With the largest number of cattle forward, 71 animals in total, Robert Phillip had his work cut out for him with the depth of quality forward.

The overall champion of the day was the female champion, Neoinean Ruadh 6th of Leys. This daughter of Sir Lawrence 2nd of Springfield (Leadburn), and out of Neoinean Ruah 4th of Leys, was expertly shown by Willie MacLean and bred by Leys Castle Farm.

Standing in reserve was 2-year-old Arin 2nd of Blairlogan. Arin, was sired by Aonghas Ruadh of Hyndford out of Arin 2nd of Culfoich. She was also champion female at Drymen Show and Stirling Show, and was reserve female champion at the Great Yorkshire Show in 2022.

Male champion was Eoin Mhor 30th of Mottistone, he is by Eoin Mhor 8th of Mottistone out of Kerrie 2nd of Mottistone. Bred by Michael Poland and owned and shown by Grant Hyslop.

Standing in reserve was Eoin Mhor 5th of Harris, he is by Eoin Mhor 12th of Mottistone out of Ellit Dubh Valley of Walton. Bred and owned by Paul Harris and shown by Guy Mumford, all the way from Bedford and Shropshire.

Paul Harris’ Eoin Mhor 5th of Harris and Bannockburn Highland Cattle’s Jaheeb Dhubh of Mohmar were placed 3rd.

Beef Cattle Native Breed Inter-Breed Team Competition

Grant Hylsop’s Eoin Mhor 30th of Mottistone, D and C Logan’s Arin 2nd of Blairlogan, and Innishewan Farms’ Bridget 324th of Benmore were placed 4th.

Beef Cattle Inter-Breed Team Competition

Grant Hyslop’s Eoin Mhor 30th of Mottistone, Innishewan Farms’ Bridget 321st of Benmore, Tordarroch Estates’ Bernice 21st of Tordarroch, and Balnabroich Farms’ Kirsty 2nd of Balnabroich were placed 5th.

Huge congratulations to everyone concerned, all three classes were very strongly contested with great quality cattle being shown.
