Royal Highland Show 2025
This year’s show of Highland Cattle at the Royal Highland Show was a resounding success, marked by outstanding livestock, unwavering dedication, and a stroke of good fortune with the weather.
From the outset, the showgrounds were blessed with sunshine and blue skies, creating the perfect backdrop for what would become one of the most memorable exhibitions in recent years. The Highland cattle on display were nothing short of spectacular – a true credit to the breed and a reflection of the meticulous preparation carried out by each exhibitor.
Overall champion, Cameron of Squir Mor
Among the standout successes of the show, Dexter and Carolyn Logan, together with Ewen Macmillan, achieved a tremendous milestone by taking Overall Champion with their jointly owned bull, Cameron of Sguir Mor. Bred by William MacLean of the Sguir Mor fold, Inverglen, near Oban. Cameron made headlines when he topped the United Auctions Highland Cattle sale at 10,000 guineas.
Not only did this remarkable animal secure the top honour, but he also led the team to victory in the Group of Three Native Interbreed Championship – for the second year running. A phenomenal achievement and a testament to the bull’s quality and consistency.
Reserve overall, Flora of Gartocharn
Adding to the show’s highlights, Jim and Catherine McKechnie proudly took Reserve Champion with their homebred heifer, Flora of Gartocharn. A striking young female with tremendous breed character, Flora is sired by Brodie of Culfoich and out of Esmi of Gartocharn – a bloodline that reflects generations of careful breeding and stockmanship. Her poise and presence in the ring earned high praise from judges and spectators alike, underlining her quality and promise for the future.
The Junior Champion title was claimed by Graeme and Rebecca Easton with their eye-catching black heifer, Elora of Ranch. Homebred and full of promise, Elora is by Magnus of Earn and out of Nora Dubh of Ranch. Her stylish presence and refined Highland character caught the judges' attention, earning her the top spot among a strong field of youngstock. A fantastic achievement for the Easton’s, whose dedication to their breeding programme continues to deliver impressive results.
Exhibitors across the board demonstrated extraordinary commitment, with months of hard work culminating in cattle presented at their very best. The grooming, conditioning, and handling on show were of the highest standard, and the pride each handler took in their animals was clear for all to see.
Judging was highly competitive, with a strong field across all classes. Spectators and fellow breeders alike were impressed by the consistent quality, temperament, and traditional characteristics displayed in the ring.
Beyond the show ring, the atmosphere buzzed with camaraderie, celebration, and a shared passion for Highland cattle. It was not only a showcase of livestock excellence but a gathering that reaffirmed the spirit and dedication of the Highland cattle community.
This year’s show sets a high benchmark – and already has everyone looking forward to what next year will bring.
