5th International Highland Cattle Gathering
Return to the Highlands: 6-14 October 2025
The Highland Cattle Society is delighted to announce that it is hosting the 5th International Highland Cattle Gathering in October, which will incorporate the annual autumn pedigree sale of Highland Cattle in Oban.
The conference will take delegates back to the roots and the home of the Highland cow in the West Highlands of Scotland. There, you will be able to view Highland Cattle in a range of settings, from old pedigree folds kept in traditional systems through to farms where the Highland cow provides the foundation for successful and commercially managed first and second cross suckler herds. You will get a chance to hear about the importance of breeding for good maternal bloodlines to:
Suit the pedigree and commercial market
Produce high quality meat from sustainably finished cattle
Utilise the breed to deliver large scale environmental benefits for fragile habitats and important wildlife
How to use modern technology including genetic analysis and performance recording hand in hand with traditional methods
The tour will then move to Oban where you will be able to witness and hopefully participate in the annual autumn Highland Cattle Show and Sale. This will be a timely celebration of the long-standing connection and history between Highland Cattle and the town of Oban which has just received the prestigious award of ‘Scotland’s Town of the Year 2024’.
