Register of Appendix females
The Highland Cattle Herd Book has a register for Highland females
found to be of true Highland type but of unknown or unproven pedigree.
Provided an appointed representative of the Society verifies that
a Highland female is 'of true Highland type' she can be entered
in Appendix B of this Register. Only female progeny of Appendix
cattle can be accepted into the Herd Book - female calves from
Appendix B cattle by a registered Highland bull can be entered
into Appendix A of the Herd Book and female calves from Appendix
A cows by a registered Highland bull are eligible for entry into
the Herd Book proper.
No male progeny out of appendix females are eligible for registration
in the appendix registers or the Herd Book proper.
A fieldsman's visit is charged at cost plus VAT and application forms
are available from the Society. When completing the form the eartag
of the animal to be inspected should be given. In the case of overseas inspections, the cost of a fieldsman's visit
is divided equally amongst all overseas breeders who have animals
inspected during the same visit.
The cost of registering one female in Appendix
B is £30.00
plus VAT (if applicable).
To register an approved appendix female the animal must be identified
with the letter 'B' or 'A' which must either be tattooed in the animal's
ear or written in waterproof permanent ink on an eartag. Breeders
must confirm the method of identification to the Society.
Highland females entered in the appendix register whose pedigrees
are subsequently established cannot be re-entered in the Herd Book
proper.
Highland females entered in the appendix register are not eligible
for use as donor cows for fertilised embryo transfer programmes.
